World War 2 and Pearl Harbor - The Internment of the Japanese

On December 7th 1941 Japanese forces attacked the American Naval base of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, which effectively brought America into WW2. After, the Japanese citizens of the West Coast United States were "relocated" as a matter of what was thought to be national safety. These internment camps are the subject of much debate. Many compare them to the Concentration Camps of the Nazi regime, but others refer to them quite mildly as "summer camps." By examining the autobiography Farewell to Manzanar one can clearly see these camps were far from a vacation, and by examining the government's post war response to relocation camps one can see it is thought by most to be a blemish on modern American history. Naturally there are revisionist historians who argue in defense of the internment camps, but the relocation and internment of the Japanese during WW2 was not justified.

Crib Bumper Sets

Immediate following the Pearl Harbor, there was fear that the Japanese Empire was planning a full scale Naval attack on the West Coast of the United States. This suspicion lead the American government to unconstitutionally relocate and detain 120,000 Japanese. Of these approximately sixty two percent were American citizens. The sentiments were that citizenship alone does not guarantee loyalty to the United States. Jeanne Wakatsuki and her family were non-US citizens and since her father had a fishing boat, the FBI singled him out as a possible Japanese loyalist. While it is easy to look back at a historical situation with 20/20 vision, if one separates oneself from the known outcome of the war, it is easy to understand the suspicions of the Japanese people. With an extremely strong Navy, an attack on the Western United States by the Japanese would have devastating effects on the country but it is a completely different monster all together to detain people, for years, on mere suspicions. In fact, Jeanne Wakatsuki is only seven years old when she is first and she does not even speak Japanese. How can the detainment of a seven year old that does not speak the language and does not have contact with her ancestors in Japan be justified?

Crib Bumper Sets

In the 80's the American Government established a commission to research the matter. The commission determined that the internment was "unjust and motivated by racism rather than real military necessity." WW2 was fought on two fronts, the European and the Pacific. Although Germans and Italians who were non-US citizens were also relocated, those who were US citizens but just of Italian or European descent were not affected. This fact alone proves that the Japanese were racially profiled just on account of their Asian appearance. The Civil Liberties Act of 1988 gave twenty thousand dollars to each surviving detainee as reparations for their hardship. Most can look back on the period and feel regret and embarrassment for what happened, in such a modern era. However, we are going through similar times right now. The Japanese internment is a case of racial profiling, which, since September 11th 2001 has been the subject of much political debate in this country. Shortly after the attacks, most people found no problem with the racial profiling of Arabs during airport security believing that it was a matter of national security and a preemptive measure to prevent another terrorist attack. Will Americans look back at these times forty years in the future, just as was done with the Japanese internment, and regret their beliefs?

Cribs for Babies - 7 Criteria To Look Upon Before Opting For It

You might not realize this but seeing that cute baby sleeping quietly and comfortably would make any hearts feels melt. So cute and innocent don't you think? Providing the very best for them is what every parents wish for. No doubt that the cribs for babies are one of must have item for them to have enough sleep and safety guaranteed. And yet, what are the criteria to look for in cribs for baby?

Crib Bumper Sets

Here are the 7 criteria for you to look for in most cribs for babies:

Crib Bumper Sets

Standard Specification

All the manufacturers of cribs for baby should and must meet the Government standard requirements set by The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), the Juvenile Products Manufacturers' Association (JPMA) certifies cribs that meet the safety standards and the voluntary standards by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).

The Materials

There are 3 main materials used for making cribs for babies and that is wood, plastics, and iron. Yet, when talking about the durability aspect, the metal cribs are more sturdy, secure, and longevity. Nevertheless, if safety and hazard free environment becomes the concern, then consider cribs which made of wood. The wooden cribs are considered the best material for the baby's health.

The Mattress

The mattress is part of the crib and obviously is where your infant will sleep on. It is so much easy to pick one for use but it seems to have a connection with SIDS, particularly if the baby sleeps on a soft mattress. For this case, consider the metal spring system whereby the entire mattress is supported and more durable. The mattress must be firm with tight fitting and there should be no missing or broken hardware.

Height Measurements

One of the crucial parts of having cribs for babies is the height measurements between the mattress and the side bars. It is common to set the mattress at the highest position when at newborn stage. The distance between the mattress and the top of the side bar should be no more than 26 inches (if set at the highest position). The 3 position option in mattress heights adjustment would be the wisest choice as it can be adjust accordingly as the child grows.

The Drop Sides

Most parents that having cribs for babies with this features find it to be very convenient. The single drop down sided crib is the most preferred one compare to the double drop sided. It allows them to easily lift baby out and to place their baby again in the crib. In terms of safety aspect, the drop sides must be at least 9 inches above the mattress support when lowered. Moreover, placing the baby crib near the window is not advisable.

Slats and Bumper Pads

The crib slats or bars should not exceed 2 and 3/8 inches apart from each other. This will prevent the baby's head getting stuck or slipping between the slats. The bumper pads are an additional of great concept and should be secured properly, as the risk might come to your baby like slipping between the bumpers and mattress; causing suffocates as a result.

Mobile Cribs for Babies

Having the wheels on the crib would a plus and helps the parent to mobilize the baby anywhere they like. But this add-on functionality shall becomes ineffective once the babies started to sit up on their own or worse with standing ability, the wheels should be take off to prevent unexpected incident.

The existence of danger upon cribs for babies is most likely to exist, yet the failure to recognize the hidden potential risk is still noted. With that being said, these are the essential measure of cribs for baby which parents should firstly look into.
